At our home we typically save desserts for special occasions. But when spring and summer roll around, it’s a different story. We widen our window of dessert time to weekends as well, especially when ice cream is involved!

With Spring and Summer right around the corner what better way to celebrate then soaking up the hot sun and cooling down with a waffle cone filled with your very own tailor-made ice cream, sprinkles and all!

Homemade ice cream is perfect for any adult or kid-friendly event. The best part is that you can customize the ice cream to match any theme you are working on. Let’s use St. Paddy’s Day as an example; why not serve green ice cream that you made from scratch?

In this article we’ll uncover The ICE – 70 Electronic Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker recipes that you’ll love and the overall review of this handy appliance.

The Cuisinart ICE-70 Electronic Ice Cream Maker Overview

The ICE-70 is a fantastic machine and here’s why we are loving it:

Additional Capabilities:

  • In addition to ice cream there are settings for Gelato, Frozen Yogurt, and Sorbet. The time is automatically set for each option, but can be adjusted manually.
  • Includes a countdown timer with auto shutoff.
  • The lid has a removable measuring cup for up to 1/2 cup of add-ins, and when the cup is removed, thereโ€™s a handy hole for pouring those ingredients in.

Churning Time: A quick 15-20 mins unlike the older models which can take up to 40 mins.

Dimensions: 9.7 x 8.6 x 13.2 inches.

Capacity: Makes 2-quarts of your favourite frozen treat.

Dishwasher Safe: Like most appliances the ICE-70 is not dishwasher safe. That being said, this model is still quite easy to clean.

Save With Your New Ice Cream Maker

Saving money and calories are a win-win for me.

If you love ice cream and find you’re purchasing container after container each week then you will definitely notice an increase in your monthly budget once you start to make your own ice cream. Sure, purchasing the ICE-70 may seem like your forking out a lot of cash upfront but the savings will trump the initial investment in the end.

Not only willย  it be easier on your wallet but your waistline will be forever thankful too!

I mentioned earlier in our home we save our dessert time for special occasions. This is probably because me and my husband tend to lean more on the savoury side of the spectrum when it comes to food.

As a result of this we don’t generally crave sugar so when we do have treats it’s usually quality over quantity.

Based on our lifestyle choices making our own ice cream just makes sense for us. We have the control of what ingredients are included and most importantly how much sugar we’re adding.

The main reason for having our own ice cream maker was to have our favourite dessert without the sugar overload and it gives creative freedom with the end result.

There is nothing more satisfying than having a homemade bowl of frozen goodness that tastes fresher and better than anything you’ve bought from the store!

Don’t Fret About The Mess

OK, OK, we mentioned this machine is not dishwasher safe and yes that can be a total pain if you’re used to having a dishwasher. But in reality, most appliances aren’t meant for the dishwasher and in most cases it’s just easier to hand wash anyway.

Here are some tips on how to clean the ICE-70

  • Allow the freezer bowl to defrost before cleaning.
  • Clean the freezer bowl, mixing arm and lid in warm soapy water.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners or implements. Instead, use a soft sponge.
  • Wipe motor base clean with damp cloth
  • Dry all parts thoroughly

Let The Fun Begin

When you purchase the ICE-70 you will receive an amazing recipe guide that includes recipes for ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet and gelato plus caramel, hot fudge and raspberry sauce.

For me, the best part about owning an ice cream maker is of course serving my very own homemade ice cream at a party or get together.

I love the ability to tailor the frozen deliciousness to whatever the theme is. Just adding food colouring to any recipe can instantly step up your party game! It’s so simple yet kids and adults alike will adore you for taking that extra step, trust me.

The easiest recipe to alter to any theme is The Simple Vanilla Ice Cream. With this you can add any ingredient to your liking.

Customize it:

The opportunities to customize the Simple Vanilla Ice Cream are endless. Here are a few ideas to consider:

  • For your Easter event this year, try adding mini eggs to this recipe and you’ll have a memorable Easter treat.
  • For St. Patrick’s Day add peppermint extract and dark chocolate chips with green food colouring.
  • If you live in Canada chances are you’ll be celebrating Canada Day – add red food colouring as your ice cream is churning and serve up a red & white swirled vanilla ice cream.

One of my favourite recipes is the Mango Frozen Yogurt. I opt out of adding sugar in this recipe simply because the mangoes are sweet enough. My best advice is to play around with each recipe and write notes as you go so you remember what you liked and didn’t like.

This is another fun recipe Prosecco-Grapefruit Sorbet, perfect for a hot summers day!

We All Scream For Ice Cream

Spring and Summer will be here before you know it and you’ll need something tasty to cool you down.

Holiday events, play dates, birthday parties and summer get together’s are perfectly good reasons to have an ice cream maker handy and ready to use.

This product would be a definite blast. While I don’t really consume dairy I can definitely find some awesome alternative recipes for healthy ice cream, especially now that the warmer months are upon us…thank goodness! I definitely would love to invest in this product around April/May and make weeks’ worth of ice cream at a time, as it’s always been a weakness of mine.

Hi Amber, I love this, and I am so convinced that I need this in my kitchen. In my house we love ice cream but because I am trying to cut calories this could be a life saver. For us, ice cream is an all year around thing, but once summer hits, it’s even worse. I think we could survive on ice cream for dinner, lol. With the ice cream maker I would be able to make my own ice cream tailored with lower calories. Seriously considering this. Thanks so much for sharing your review and your recipes.
